Entrance and transport:

  • All people are entering Croatia via the border crossings at Šid/Tovarnik, Berkasovo/Bapska and Jamena/Strošinci

  • From Tovarnik, they are taken by train to Hungary, from Bapska they are taken to Opatovac and then to Hungary (bus or train), from Strošinci by buses to Hungary

  • Transport through Croatia to Hungary is organized by the government, free of charge

  • The only official transit camp is in Opatovac, Temporary Admission Center, location: 45.25748N, 19.17028E

  • Everyone is required to be registered before moving on from Croatia. Registration means taking your name and surname, photo, without fingerprints (for now)

  • The southern route (which leads through Montenegro and south Croatia) isn’t safe! In this part Croatia is divided into two parts (this part is divided by Bosnia and Herzegovina which is not an EU land and there is no land connection to the rest of Croatia) and there are a lot of inaccessible mountains.

  • Announcements are that this part of Croatia will be strictly closed and that the refugees will be sent back to the country from which they were coming if they enter Croatia through this route.

  • To find out about applying for asylum/international protection in Croatia, contact Centre for Peace Studies (cms@cms.hr, www.cms.hr/en)
